Week of 5/12
Students received their Sketchbook Challenges on Monday (see link on the left).
Students are continuing to develop their branding for their companies. Some students have already started sketching the logo and favicon, while some are still tossing around entrepreneurial experiments. Each student will complete this project by assembling a "presentation board" during class.

Week of 5/5
Students are venturing into the exciting world of graphic design! They began work on a personal logo project. Each student has been tasked with brainstorming a company or business for which he/she will create a logo, mission statement, and favicon (like emoji for the URL bar of a browser). Students will utilize content from their studies of media literacy in Library to fully develop a well-rounded brand.

Weeks of 11/11 - 11/25
Our schedule has been crazy! We wrapped up our two cave paintings and shared our early human stories with Mr. Johnson in Social Studies. In that class, we also worked in teams to create "fabric" using methods similar to those of the early humans. Our newest project focuses on observational drawing. We are attempting to draw our school shoes!
______________________________________________________________
Weeks of 10/28 and 11/4
We have not had regular classes these two weeks due to the assembly and the Book Fair. Recently, we have been working on composing and creating our cave paintings. Both groups received a sketchbook entry. If you were absent, you must come pick up a copy of the timeline from me.
Sketchbook Entry for Weeks of 10/28 and 11/4
Cut the timeline handout into two columns. Tape or paste it with a glue stick onto two facing pages of your sketchbook. In ONE of the bottom portions, tell me why you think art history is important. Which period or culture are you most excited to learn about, and why? Don't forget to fill the entire bottom portion--your last word should be somewhere on the last two lines of the page.
______________________________________________________________
Week of 10/21
Both Groups: We took a virtual field trip to the Caves of Lascaux in France to see the cave paintings of the early humans! We will work together to create our own cave painting that tells a story.
Sketchbooks were collected this week for the end of the quarter. All sketchbook entries are graded on completion for credit.

Questions:
- What do you think "without intermediary" means?
- How do you think people should look at art?
- What do you think "reduces the work of art" means?
- Is the author "for" or "against" taking pictures of the art? Why?

Group B: Due Friday

Week of 9/23
We are preparing for an interdisciplinary project! The project will be facilitated by Miss Flores and Mrs. Cobleigh. All graded work and participation will be factored into the student's Art grade.
Sketchbook Entry for Week of 9/23
This week, your entry will be replaced by a media journal. Mrs. Cobleigh will explain how to do the journal during library. You will have two nights to complete it.
______________________________________________________________
Week of 9/16
Groups A & B: We started work on our first project, layered relief drawings. We are cutting shapes out of cardstock and gluing them in layers to create a "template" of images. Next week, we will use graphite to "print" the template onto a sheet of paper. We will then add in further detail by drawing.
There is not a new sketchbook entry for this week! Unfortunately, many students chose not to do last week's entry. I am giving one make-up week since this was our first attempt at making an entry. In general, most weekly prompts should take between 15-20 minutes to answer. The student has the whole week to work on the entry. These entries are not optional, and they are not busy work. They serve to prepare a student for an upcoming class or to reinforce skills or concepts learned in class. Next week, students without complete sketchbook entries will not receive any credit.

Week of 9/9
Group A: Unfortunately, I did not get to meet with Group A for a full class period due to the Band Demonstration. Students received their first sketchbook entry.
Group B: We discussed value and geometric shapes in class. Students recreated a value scale and practiced applying highlights and shadows to their own drawings of 3D geometric shapes. Students received their first sketchbook entry.

The example breaks down the image of the kitten into basic shapes. Draw the basic shapes on top of your images. List the shapes you used for each image. (This week, you do not need to fill the lined portion of the page.)

First Two Weeks
Group A: We went over our class contract, and students received their sketchbooks. Next Wednesday, Group A will swap with Group B so they can have their first Library class. When I see Group A next (on W 9/11), students should have completed their sketchbook covers (illustrated with their name and designed with their personality in mind) and have their class contracts to turn in.
Group B: Unfortunately, I did not get to meet with these students due to the combination of half-day and full day scheduling. Next Wednesday, Group B will swap with Group A so we can have our first class.
